Athletes of the Week
Women's Volleyball
Posted 50 assists in NSU's two matches last week...had six kills, no errors and hit .429 in the loss to Bethune-Cookman...added 27 assists in the loss to Florida A&M...had five digs in each match.
Football
Recorded 10 catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns in the 21-16 win over Delaware State...had eight catches for 86 yards and both of his touchdowns in the decisive fourth-quarter rally...scored the winning TD with 49 seconds remaining on a 39-yard catch-and-run where he broke two tackles before finding the end zone...it was his fourth 100-yard receiving game of the season.

BERLIN - Former NSU Division I All-American Debbie Dunn captured a gold medal Sunday as the lead-off leg of the United States' women'x 4x400 meter relay team at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships in Berlin.

BERLIN – Norfolk State University track alumni Debbie Dunn and Chandra Sturrup advanced to the finals of their races only to finish just outside of the medals this week at the 2009 IAAF World Track and Field Championships.

Also on Tuesday, Chris Brown of the Bahamas won his first-round heat in the men’s 400 meters in 45.53 seconds. Brown will run in Wednesday’s semifinals.

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State athletics director Marty L. Miller announced on Tuesday that men’s track coach Kenneth Giles has been assigned to the position of director of track and field programs.

Giles will remain as the Spartans’ head men’s track coach, and Ronda Berard will remain as the head women’s coach. Giles, however, will take on the added responsibility of overseeing the operations of both programs with an emphasis on recruiting, scheduling and home track meet operations.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Junior Jonee’ Artis (Chesapeake, Va.) finished ninth in the high jump after clearing 5 feet, 7 inches (1.70 meters) last Saturday at the 2009 NCAA East Regional Track & Field Championships at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T.

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State women’s track coach Ronda Berard announced Tuesday the signing of runner/jumper Champagne Bell (Norfolk, Va./Booker T. Washington HS) to a national letter of intent to compete for the Spartans next year.
