Josh Turner Added to FCS Defensive Lineman Watch List by CFPA

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State redshirt senior nose guard Josh Turner has been added to the preseason watch list for the FCS Defensive Lineman of the Year Award given by the College Football Performance Awards, the organization announced.

Turner is an early addition to the initial preseason list, which was released June 7. He is one of 42 FCS defensive ends and tackles on the preseason list by the CFPA, which gives out weekly and yearly positional awards based on objective, scientific ratings of the extent to which players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.

Despite often facing double or triple-teams as the middle man in the Spartans' three-man defensive front, Turner was fourth on the team with 46 total tackles in 2010. He racked up 12.0 tackles for loss, tied for tops on the team, including 2.5 sacks. Turner's seven QB pressures also led the team.

Turner helped the Spartans finish third in the MEAC and sixth in the nation in total defense (284.1 yards per game allowed) en route to second-team All-MEAC honors.

The only other MEAC linemen on the list were Bethune-Cookman's Ryan Davis and South Carolina State's Pat Washington.

Turner is the second Spartan to make one of the CFPA's preseason lists. Classmate Corwin Hammond was earlier named to the FCS Linebacker of the Year watch list.
