Dante Barnes Signs with Washington Redskins

NORFOLK, Va. - Former Norfolk State cornerback Dante Barnes signed a free agent contract with the Washington Redskins. Barnes is participating in the Redskins training camp this weekend.

Barnes played two seasons at NSU (2009-10) after transferring from Akron. He started all 10 games in which he played in 2010, making 31 tackles (22 solo) and intercepting two passes. He returned one of those interceptions 68 yards for a touchdown against Florida A&M.

Barnes also had one tackle for loss and broke up five passes. His seven passes defended ranked second on the team.

Barnes is the second NSU senior from last year's squad to sign an NFL free agent contract this week, joining offensive lineman Calton Ford (Cleveland Browns). Barnes is also the third former Spartan defensive back in the last three seasons to land on an NFL team, joining current Jacksonville Jaguars Don Carey and Terrell Whitehead.
