O’Quinn Named MEAC Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Coming off a pair of big performances, Norfolk State men's basketball senior Kyle O'Quinn was named the MEAC Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

O'Quinn led NSU to a pair of wins last week, including a come-from-behind 80-75 victory over rival Hampton Saturday on the road. On Jan. 16, O'Quinn helped the Spartans stay perfect in the MEAC in a 74-66 win at Coppin State.

Against the Eagles, O'Quinn tied his career high with 19 rebounds and tallied 24 points on 11-of-15 shooting with two assists and two blocks. He added 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting with 11 rebounds and two assists in the win over the Pirates. O'Quinn threw down the go-around dunk with 31 seconds left in the game to put NSU ahead for good and then hit two free throws at the end of the game to ice the win.

For the week, O'Quinn averaged 23.0 points, 15.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 blocks while shooting a combined 19-of-26 (73.1 percent) from the floor.

The Spartans sit alone in first place in the MEAC with a 7-0 conference record. NSU stands 15-5 overall and is currently riding an eight-game win streak.

The award marks the second of the season for NSU after sophomore Pendarvis Williams was named the player of the week on Dec. 27. O'Quinn has twice been named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week this season.

NSU will face one of its last two non-conference opponents of the season Tuesday night against Morehead State. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Joseph Echols Hall.
