Gilbreath’s Homer Grants Spartans Win Over Crusaders

NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk State softball team captures their first win of the season over the Crusaders of Holy Cross, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon after it was postponed due to inclement weather (rain).

Rylie Gilbreath homered in the bottom of the third inning for the Spartans (1-14) in their 2-0 win over the Crusaders (1-3). Gilbreath is currently leading the team in hits (14), runs (4), doubles (4) and is currently the only person on the team with a homerun.

Lauren Sheehan (1-2) and Brierra Tyler both threw for a combined shutout only allowing four hits while striking out eight combined. 

The Spartans first score of the game came on an RBI-single by Loren Hudson in the bottom of the first. The single scored Aniyah Michalak from second who advanced not only on the hit but also on a fielding error by the center fielder.

Coming up - The Spartans host Marist at 10:30 a.m. and FDU at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at the NSU Softball Field for a double-header.
