Krystal Vest enters her first academic year with the Norfolk State Athletics Department as the Director of Student-Athlete Well-Being in 2023-24. Vest is a Virginia Board of Counseling Clinical Supervisor and Licensed Professional Counselor. She is responsible for student-athletes and department mental health programming and clinical supports.

Upon her arrival, Vest implemented an evident-based mental health screening process that provides annual screenings for student-athletes and promotes mental well-being. In addition to this, she coordinated mental health programming for the department to be trained in Mental Health First Aid and become certified first aiders.

As a former collegiate athlete, Vest is no stranger to the unique needs of athletes as it relates to mental health.  Prior to joining NSU, Vest worked in private practice, mental health agencies, and school systems providing mental health and substance use counseling and athlete mental performance building to high school and collegiate athletes.
Vest graduated from Christopher Newport University in 2007 and obtained a bachelor’s  degree in sociology with a concentration in criminology. She later received her master’s in professional counseling from Liberty University in 2014.

Vest is a member of the American Counseling Association and Women Leaders in Sports.
