Athletes of the Week
Men's Basketball
Averaged 22.3 points, 10 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game in NSU's last three games (vs. SCSU, Morgan State, Coppin State)...had a career-high 32 points and 11 rebounds at SCSU...had 17 points and six rebounds in the overtime loss to Morgan State...added 18 points and a career-high tying 13 rebounds in the win over Coppin, his fifth double-double of the season...shot 70 percent from the floor (28-of-40) in the three games.
Women's Basketball
Scored a career-high 20 points in the loss to Morgan State, hitting 9-of-13 from the floor...added 11 points, six rebounds and two blocks in the loss to Coppin State.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Junior Josef Tessema (Springfield, Va.) paced the Norfolk State men’s cross country to an 18th-place finish out of 35 teams on Saturday morning at the 2009 NCAA Southeast Region Cross Country Championship, hosted by the University of Louisville.

The NSU men's cross country team won its 9th MEAC title in the last 10 years.

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Norfolk State men’s cross country team capped a decade of MEAC cross country dominance on Saturday by winning its second consecutive conference championship and ninth in the last 10 years.

The Spartans won every MEAC men’s cross country title this decade except in 2007, when they finished second. Included in that span was a conference-record seven straight championships from 2000-06.

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men’s cross country team will vie for its second straight MEAC championship and its ninth in the last 10 years this Saturday in Princess Anne, Md. The championship 8,000-meter (five-mile) race begins at 10:30 a.m. on the campus of Maryland-Eastern Shore.

The Spartans have won every MEAC men’s cross country title this decade except in 2007, when they finished second. Included in that span was a conference-record seven straight from 2000-06.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior Jonathan Soimo (Kapsabet, Kenya) led the Norfolk State men’s cross country team with a 12th-place finish on Saturday at the Tribe Open 8K at Eastern State Hospital.

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State sophomore Philemon Kimutai (Eldoret, Kenya) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men’s cross country athlete of the week for the third consecutive week, the league announced on Wednesday.

CARY, N.C. – The Norfolk State men’s cross country team breezed to victory on Saturday afternoon at the HBCU Challenge section of the Great American Cross Country Festival. The Spartans tallied 29 points, well ahead of Hampton (72) in the 12-team field.

Norfolk State sophomore Philemon Kimutai (Eldoret, Kenya) earned a first-place finish for the second week in a row.
