Athletes of the Week
Football
Recorded 10 catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns in the 21-16 win over Delaware State...had eight catches for 86 yards and both of his touchdowns in the decisive fourth-quarter rally...scored the winning TD with 49 seconds remaining on a 39-yard catch-and-run where he broke two tackles before finding the end zone...it was his fourth 100-yard receiving game of the season.
Women's Volleyball
Posted 50 assists in NSU's two matches last week...had six kills, no errors and hit .429 in the loss to Bethune-Cookman...added 27 assists in the loss to Florida A&M...had five digs in each match.

11.15 | Women's Cross Country
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Norfolk State sophomore Kellen Rutto (Eldoret, Kenya) paced the women’s cross country team at the 2009 NCAA Cross Country Southeast Regional on Saturday at the University of Louisville. Rutto finished the 6K course in 22:44.56 to help the Spartans to a 32nd-place finish.

It was the Spartans’ first-ever appearance at the Southeast Regional after they won their first MEAC Cross Country championship two weeks ago.

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — The Norfolk State women’s cross country team won its first-ever Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship title on Saturday morning on the campus of Maryland Eastern Shore. The Spartans scored 49 points and had four runners earn All-MEAC honors.

Sophomore Aurora Scott (Portsmouth, Va.) was the Spartans’ top finisher. She completed the 3.1 mile course (5,000 meters) in 18:44.97 for a third-place finish.

Williamsburg, Va. — Norfolk State sophomore Aurora Scott (Portsmouth, Va.) finished fourth at the William & Mary Tribe Open on Saturday. She ran the 6K (3.7 mile) course in 22:17.21.

Former Virginia Commonwealth runner, Maria-Elena Calle won the overall title in 20:36.24

10.07 | Women's Cross Country

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State sophomore Aurora Scott (Portsmouth, Va.) was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the third straight week, the league announced on Wednesday.

Scott paced the Spartans and won the HBCU Challenge in 18:27 at the Great American Cross Country Festival. Her time helped NSU to a first-place finish out of 13 competing teams.

CARY, N.C. — Sophomore Aurora Scott (Portsmouth, Va.) turned in a first-place finish in a season-best time of 18:27 to help lead the Norfolk State women’s cross country team to the title at Saturday’s HBCU Challenge (5K) at the Great American Cross Country Festival. The Spartans tallied 31 points for the win.

The other teams finishing in the top five were: Hampton (43), North Carolina Central (93), St, Augustine’s (118) and Bowie State (146).
