Tournament Notes

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - NSU (1-2) takes part in the 2009 UAB Thanksgiving Classic this weekend. The tournament features NSU, North Texas, Samford, and host UAB. The Spartans play UAB at 7 p.m. (ET) on Friday and Samford at 2 p.m. (ET) on Saturday.

NSU won its first game of the season last Friday with a 78-74 victory over St. Paul’s. Whitney Long (Raleigh, N.C.) led four Spartans in double figures with a career-high-tying 19 points and a team-high four rebounds. Marquilla Evans (Portsmouth, Va.) added 13 points, while Raychele Payne (Newport News, Va.) and Marian Brooks (Woodbridge, Va.) each contributed 11. Long is NSU’s top scorer with 14.7 points per game. Evans is second in scoring (14.0 ppg) and ranks first in rebounding (6.3 rpg).
