Box Score

NORFOLK, Va. — Melissa Daniels scored a game-high 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field as the Florida A&M women's basketball team handed Norfolk State its 20th loss of the season with a 78-52 win on Monday evening at Joseph Echols Hall.

Florida A&M (10-11, 5-5 MEAC) shot 51.6 percent (16-of-31) in the first half to take a 38-23 lead into half time. Daniels started the scoring with a jumper with 19:50 left in the first half to give FAMU a 2-0 lead. Shaneka Lee (Hampton, Va.) answered on the other end with a jumper of her own at the 19:30 mark. But Daniels scored the next three buckets for FAMU and the Lady Rattlers maintained the lead for the remainder of the game.

In the second half, it was all FAMU as NSU (0-20, 0-10) could get no closer than 11, 40-29, on a layup by Danelle Tate (Stafford, Va.) with 17:27 left in the game.

Daniels and teammate Deidra Jones almost recorded double-doubles for FAMU. In addition to her 14 points, Daniels grabbed nine rebounds, while Jones had 11 points and nine assists. Tameka McKelton (13), Kirsten Stallings (11), and Jarquella Woods (10) all scored in double figures for the Lady Rattlers.

Tate was the only Spartan in double figures with 10 points. Raychele Payne (Newport News, Va.) added nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.

The Spartans embark on their last road trip of the season this weekend. They take on Delaware State at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Dover, Del. and then travel to Princess Anne, Md. to play Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday. Tip off at UMES is 5:30 p.m.
