NORFOLK, Va. — Selena Galloway and Alexis Abraham each had 11 points to lead the Delaware State women’s basketball team to a 57-44 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win over Norfolk State on Monday night at Echols Hall.

The game got off to very a slow start. NSU (3-16, 0-10 MEAC) took an 8-3 lead after a jumper by Raychele Payne (Newport News, Va.) with 13:08 left in the first half. DSU (4-19, 2-8 MEAC) went up 12-10 after a 3-pointer by Abraham at the 10:01 mark, giving the Lady Hornets a lead they would maintain for the rest of the half.

DSU led by as many as nine, 21-12, with 4:21 left in the opening period, but the Spartans chipped away at that lead and went into halftime down by one, 25-24, after a layup by Genor Dalton (Martinsville, Va.) with 31 seconds on the clock.

In the second half, the Spartans went up four, 29-25, after a 3-pointer by Recca Trice (Arlington, Texas) with 18:32 left in the game, but found themselves down again after a three-point play by Kianna D’Oliveira with 17:08 left. The closest NSU could get after that was two (39-37) after a layup by Batavia Owens  (Norfolk, Va.) with 9:03 left.

A jumper by Courtney Crockett with 11 seconds left sealed the 13-point win for the Lady Hornets.

Crocket was the third Lady Hornet in double figures with 10 points. She added eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in 33 minutes. Brittany Washington had a game-high 13 rebounds.

For NSU, Payne had a game-high 15 points. She was 6-of-8 from the field, including 1-of-1 from 3-point range, and had six rebounds and two assists. Dalton grabbed a career-high nine rebounds.

NSU travels to Hampton University on Saturday for the Battle of the Bay. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. In the earlier meeting between the two teams this season, Hampton (12-10, 7-3 MEAC) won 63-59 in overtime at Echols Hall.
