Overton, Stevenson Named NTCA All-Academic

NORFOLK, Va. – Rising sophomore Jessica Overton and departed senior Krystal Stevenson were honored by the National Tenpins Coaches Association for their academic achievements during the 2009-10 season by being named to the 2010 NTCA All-Academic Team.

The duo were two of a total of 110 student-athletes who were given academic recognition by the NTCA and Brunswick for posting a grade-point average of 3.4 or better.

Stevenson averaged 155.5 pins on the year, including a season-high game of 198 at the Lady Bulldogs Classic Jan. 23, on her way to totaling 2,021 pins in 13 games. Stevenson had her best tournament of the season at the Kutztown Invitational Jan. 30 when she averaged 170.7 in three games.

Overton ranked third on the team with an average of 175 per game as she totaled 9,100 pins on the year. Overton competed in 52 games, posting a high of 215 at the ECAC Championships March 6, and saved her best for the end of the year when she averaged 187.0 at the MEAC Championships.

The Spartans finished the 2009-10 campaign 67-56 overall, finishing with the school record for wins in a season. The team finished the year ranked No. 20 in the NTCA top 20 poll.

The NTCA and Brunswick honored Five student-athletes were named to the NTCA All-Academic First Team in addition to another five on both the second and third teams.
