NORFOLK, Va. – Freshman Noelle Eagles of the Norfolk State volleyball team earned the first MEAC Rookie of the Week honor for 2010 on Monday, in an announcement made by the conference office.

The 5-2 libero out of Richmond, Ind., totaled 84 digs in four matches as NSU went 2-2 in the Spartan Classic this weekend at Joseph Echols Hall. Eagles averaged 5.25 digs per set, which ranks second in the league.

The highlight of the tournament came in Saturday’s 3-2 loss to UNC Greensboro, as Eagles set the school record with 30 digs in the match. She broke the previous mark of 29 set by April Johnson against Virginia Union on Oct. 23, 1996.

Eagles had 25 digs in her very first collegiate match against Providence Friday and also added 12 assists and four service aces for the week.

NSU will be back in action Tuesday at Hampton for a 6 p.m. showdown with its cross-bay rivals.
