NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk State senior kicker
Ryan Estep was named MEAC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
This marks the third time this season Estep has won at least a share of the conference's weekly special teams award, and the fourth time in his career he has earned the MEAC weekly honor.
Estep hit both of his field goal attempts and all four of his extra points in the Spartans' 34-24 win over Hampton on Saturday, accounting for 10 of NSU's points. His field goals came from 22 and 38 yards out.
The left-footed Estep is now 15-for-15 on field goal attempts this season and 20-of-20 on extra points for a team-high 65 points. His 15 field goals are the most by any FCS kicker, and his average of 2.14 per game is second-best in the FCS. He has made 16 straight field goals and 20 of his last 21 dating to last season, and has converted on 36 straight extra point tries.
Estep's 15 field goals also tie the modern-day NSU single-season record of
Justin Castellat from 2007.
Estep shares the conference honor this week with fellow kickers Sven Hurd of Bethune-Cookman and Blake Erickson of South Carolina State. Estep also keeps alive NSU's streak of having at least one weekly MEAC award winner in each week this season.
