NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State senior center Kyle O'Quinn was named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
O'Quinn averaged 12.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks in the Spartans' two games last week, a 59-57 loss to No. 16 Marquette in the Paradise Jam championship and a 70-63 win over Eastern Kentucky on Sunday. O'Quinn averaged 10.0 defensive rebounds per contest last week, including 11 against EKU. He also blocked five shots in the EKU game.
O'Quinn was named NSU's first-ever MEAC Defensive Player of the Year following the 2010-11 season. This is his seventh time earning the conference's weekly defensive award in his career.
Also Monday, O'Quinn was named MEAC Player of the Week by the web site www.collegeportsmadness.com. In addition to his defensive feats, O'Quinn averaged 16.5 points and 4.0 assists per game, including a season-best 23 points and career-high five assists against EKU.
