NORFOLK, Va. – Head Coach Debra Clark and the Norfolk State women's basketball program signed 6-0 small forward Tamara Majette to a national letter of intent for the 2012 recruiting class during the early signing period in November.
A Manassas, Va., native, Majette hails from C.D. Hylton High School, where she was named AAA All-Cardinal District honorable mention following her junior year. Majette tallied 12 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists per game last year after posting 8 points and 6 rebounds her sophomore season.
“We look forward to her adding perimeter scoring for us next year,” said Clark. “She's also an aggressive rebounding guard.”
Majette considers her defense in the paint and rebounding to be her strongest assets, she said in a recent interview with her hometown paper the News & Messenger.
She participated in the Under Armour I-95 Elite Challenge as part of a team from Washington, D.C., and the surrounding area. She has also been a member of the U-16 VA Elite AAU basketball team the last two years.
Majette, who has relatives in the Hampton Roads area, will join an NSU program that loses senior Tyisha Bridges after this season and returns just one true 3-guard in current freshman Ebony Brown. The Spartans lose two seniors, Bridges and guard Whitney Long, from this year's 15-player roster, with one transfer also sitting out this year.
