NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State University head football coach Pete Adrian announced Friday the signing of two more football recruits to national letters of intent to play for the Spartans beginning this fall.
The signees are linebacker Brandon King of Thompson High School in Alabaster, Ala., and kicker Everett Goldberg from the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Calif.
King (6-2, 210) was an honorable mention All-Shelby County pick as a senior last year. He tallied 116 tackles, 21 for loss, to go with four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
“Brandon is very athletic and very fast. He has a real nose for the football,” Adrian said. “He's just what we're looking for in our weakside inside linebacker position. He should make an immediate impact on special teams and could challenge for a backup role as a freshman.”
As a sophomore at College of the Canyons, Goldberg (6-4, 210) was 7-for-14 on field goals and 27-of-31 on extra points. Goldberg made three field goals over 40 yards, including a long of 49 yards. The Mesa Ridge, Colo., native is expected to compete for kickoff duties this fall, which will be his junior season.
“Everett is a very powerful kicker who should be an asset to our special teams next season,” Adrian said. “He consistently puts the ball into the end zone or near the goal line. He also has range out to 57 yards on field goals. He will add good competition to our kicking game, which is always a big plus.”
King and Goldberg bring NSU's 2011 signing class to 13 players.
