Estep Named Co-Special Teams Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State senior kicker Ryan Estep was named the MEAC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Estep was 3-for-3 on field goals in the Spartans' loss at West Virginia on Saturday, accounting for nine of NSU's 12 points. He connected on field goals of 39, 39 and 40 yards, the latter giving NSU a 12-10 lead over the 19th-ranked Mountaineers heading into halftime. He shared the honor this week with Hampton kicker Taurean Durham.

The three field goals made matches a career high for Estep. He also was 3-for-3 in the season-opening win over Virginia State on Sept. 3, and also hit a trio of kicks in a win over Morgan State last season. He also earned MEAC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week accolades following the win over MSU.

Estep currently leads all Division I FCS placekickers with six made field goals, and is tied for first with 3.0 field goals per game.

Estep's day highlighted a strong performance from the Spartans' kicking game Saturday. Estep actually made a fourth field goal, from 40 yards, but it was nullified by a penalty. Instead, junior Everett Goldberg came on to hit a 50-yard field goal, the longest of his collegiate career. In addition, Troy Muenzer punted a career-high 10 times for a 44.7-yard average, his best as a Spartan.
