Holston, Nkrumah Break Own School Records at Tyson Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Two school records highlighted Norfolk State's first day of action at the Tyson Invitational track meet on Friday at the University of Arkansas.

Senior Sean Holston and junior Keith Nkrumah both broke their own school records in their respective events. Holston won his heat and placed seventh (out of 75 runners) in the 400 meters in a time of 46.54 seconds. It was Holston's season-best time by more than a full second, and .05 faster than his own indoor school 400m record set in 2010 at Penn State. The field at Tyson, one of the more prestigious indoor meets in the country, was dotted with stars from the SEC, Big 12 and ACC.

Nkrumah broke the 60-meter hurdles record for the third time this season. After running a time of 7.87 in the prelims, Nkrumah blazed to a program-best time of 7.77 seconds in the semifinals to qualify fourth for Saturday's final. He broke his own record of 7.83 from Penn State two weeks ago. He has now shaved one full tenth off the 60m school record that existed prior to the 2011-12 indoor season.

Nkrumah and Holston will also form half of the Spartans' 4x400 meter relay team on Saturday. In addition, John James will compete in the championship section of the men's high jump, James Taylor will run in the 200 meters, and Josef Tessema and Philemon Kimutai will run in the 3,000 meters.

Saturday's 60m hurdles final that includes Nkrumah will be one of the races in the USA Track & Field Classic, which begins right after the end of the Tyson Invitational and features a number of professional events, as well. The USATF Classic will air on tape delay a on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
