NORFOLK, Va. – Construction work began recently on the first of two new Daktronics Inc. LED video display boards being built at William “Dick” Price Stadium. Crews took down the old boards on the west side of the stadium adjacent to James D. Gill Gymnasium last week and inserted the new high-definition ones in their place.
The new west side video display measures more than 17 feet high by 47 feet wide and features Daktronics 15HD technology. Both the east side and west side boards are capable of showing large images, live video, instant replays as well as graphics, animations, up-to-the-minute statistics and sponsor advertisements.
Along with the main display featuring the video and statistical components, displays on either side of the main boards will feature advertisements, sponsor logos and different graphics. The west end display will also feature a static NSU logo on either side of the main video display, above the 3 feet high by 16 feet wide sponsor display board.
The east side video board display will measure 12 feet 6 inches high by 31 feet wide and will be flanked on both sides by two sponsor displays also capable of showing advertisements and graphics. Work on the east side video board is expected to begin after spring commencement in early May.
The video boards, which incorporated the existing Daktronics sound system, will be run by the Show Control System being set up inside the stadium press box. The system provides a combination of display control software, world-class video processing, data integration and playback hardware to showcase the final product on the boards.
