2012 All-MEAC Baseball
NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State sophomore outfielder
Cameron Day was named to the All-MEAC first team, and senior catcher
Chris Warren and relief pitcher
Jordan Egan were voted to the second team, the league announced.
In his first year as a starter, Day leads the MEAC with a .375 batting average. He has recorded six doubles, four triples, one home run and a team-high 24 runs batted in. Day also batted .423 in conference-only games. He is NSU's first MEAC batting leader since T.J. Starkey hit .382 in 2006.
Warren, in his fourth year as a starter for the Spartans, is hitting a career-best .312 this season. Warren has 11 doubles, three triples, one homer and 20 RBI. He has played in all 47 games for NSU this season, including 46 starts. He hit three doubles, tying a school single-game record, in a win at Old Dominion earlier this year.
Egan has made a team-high 18 appearances on the mound, 12 in relief. After beginning the season in the starting rotation, Egan transitioned to a relief role later in the year and flourished. He has a team-best 2.50 earned run average, which ranks him fourth in the MEAC. He has tallied two saves and posted a 2-3 record with 47 strikeouts in 54 innings pitched.
Delaware State's Ryan Haas and J.P. Blandin were named Player and Coach of the Year, respectively. Bethune-Cookman's Rayan Gonzalez was voted Pitcher of the Year, and Savannah State's Rexford Davis was selected Rookie of the Year.
Also Wednesday, seven Spartan baseball players were named to the MEAC All-Academic team for having GPAs over 3.0. They were Joshua Boyd, Ross Cardwell, Day, Chris Horne, Chase Kyriacou, Ryan Montgomery and Richie Salter.
The Spartans (21-26) are the No. 2 seed from the MEAC Northern Division. They open MEAC Tournament play with a 9 a.m. game Wednesday against North Carolina A&T (18-34). All tournament games will be played at NSU's Marty L. Miller Field.
