Full MEAC Release
NORFOLK, Va. – A record total of 67 Norfolk State student-athletes were named to the Commissioner's All-Academic Team by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference office on Tuesday afternoon. The total represents an increase of 13 from the 2010-11 academic year and 27 from 2009-10.
NSU had the fourth-highest total among the 13 schools in the conference, trailing only Delaware State (121), Howard (83) and North Carolina A&T (71). Both DSU and Howard have more sports programs than NSU, while N.C. A&T has an equal number.
Last year's total of 54 student-athletes on the MEAC All-Academic Team had been the previous best for the NSU athletic department.
To be selected, student-athletes must be sophomores, juniors or seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Athletes must have also been in at least their second year at their current school during the 2011-12 academic year.
