NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Earlysville, Va., on Saturday to compete at the Panorama Farms Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia.
The men finished third at the UMES Cappy Anderson Invitational last weekend and were led by freshman Desmond Fogg. Four nationally-ranked teams are set to race against NSU including No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 13 Syracuse, No. 21 Michigan and No. 22 Arkansas. Duke, Howard, Kentucky, VCU, and Virginia are also scheduled to compete.
“This will be the first weekend that we will race at full strength. The first two weekends we ran sprinters and a freshman team, so this will give me an idea of how we will stack up against some of the top teams in the country and region,” said head coach Kenneth Giles. “We have four runners who can compete with anyone so I am anxious to see them compete against top talent and also how the freshman will respond on the big stage.”
The women are coming off of a fifth place finish last weekend at the UMES Cappy Anderson Invitational. The women's field includes Wisconsin, Kentucky, Oklahoma, California, Howard, VCU, Liberty, and No.15 Virginia.
The meet will be held at the Panorama Farms Cross Country Course in Earlysville, Va., with the women's 5k race set to begin at 10 a.m. followed by the men's 8k race which will begin at 10:30 a.m.
