NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State junior guard Pendarvis Williams was named the Boxtorow Division I HBCU National Player of the Year on Thursday, the Boxtorow organization announced. It marks the second straight year an NSU player has garnered the award.

Williams was also one of six players, because of a tie in the voting, to earn first-team HBCU All-America honors. This year's MEAC Player of the Year, Williams finished fourth in the league in scoring at 14.3 points per game as well as second in 3-point field goal percentage (40.6), third in free throw percentage (81.4) and 3-point field goals made (2.1) and 13th in field goal percentage (45.3).

The Philadelphia native also averaged 4.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game.

Williams was one of two MEAC players to earn a spot on the first team, joining Bethune-Cookman's Adrien Coleman. DeWayne Jackson of Morgan State and North Carolina Central's Jeremy Ingram and Stanton Kidd earned spots on the second team. Roman Banks of Southern was named the HBCU Coach of the Year.

Former NSU center Kyle O'Quinn won the player of the year award after the 2011-12 season during which the Spartans won their first-ever MEAC title and upset No. 2 seed Missouri in the NCAA tournament.
