NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State University junior linebacker Lynden Trail has been named to the preseason watch list for the College Football Performance FCS Linebacker Award.
The College Football Performance Awards annually recognize the top player at each position across the nation. All CFPA recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. Trail, a first-team All-MEAC pick as a sophomore in 2012, made the initial cut of the top 35 linebackers in the FCS heading into the 2013 season.
Despite starting just three games in his debut season at NSU after transferring from the University of Florida, Trail emerged as a force for the Spartan defense. Trail led NSU with 70 total tackles, including 17 for lost yardage. He also tied for the team-lead with six sacks and added four pass breakups, eight quarterback hurries, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.
Trail was second in the MEAC and tied for ninth nationally in tackles for loss, and tied for third in the conference with teammate Terrence Pugh with his six sacks. Trail helped lead an NSU defense which finished the year second in the MEAC and third nationally in total defense.
