NSU Athletics Announces Tailgating Guidelines for 2013 Football Season

Tailgating Request Form  |  2013 Tailgating Map

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State University Athletics announced today its tailgating and parking guidelines for the 2013 football season.

A committee of NSU administrators including representatives from the athletics department, facilities management, alumni relations, campus police, parking and the NSU Athletics Foundation collaborated to develop the plan. Due to construction of the new Nursing and Allied Health Building being built next to the Lyman Beecher Brooks Library on Presidential Parkway, parking is limited from the campus's main entrance on Park Avenue.

“Norfolk State University is experiencing significant growth in all areas.  The construction of new buildings that are designed to meet the academic needs of our students is vital to the mission of the University,” said NSU Athletics Director Marty Miller.  “We realize that on-campus parking will be limited during the upcoming football season. However, I believe we have been successful in identifying solutions that are in the best interest of our fans and the University."

The primary tailgate area will be the open space next to the band practice field behind the Hamm Fine Arts Building.  The cost for a 22 feet x 22 feet space for season ticket holders for the entire season (seven games) is $350.  Cost is $60 for a single game.

Non-season ticket holders will be charged $530 to tailgate at all seven home games and $90 per individual game.  Recreation vehicles (RVs) will be charged $100 per game.  Vending of food or other merchandise in tailgate areas is prohibited.

NSU Athletics Foundation members will park in Lot 4 located across from the Hamm Fine Arts Building and Lot 5 near the NSU Softball Field.

Tailgating reservations are now being accepted from season ticket holders, while requests from the general public (non season ticket holders) will be accepted beginning July 1. Fans can download the application form at www.nsuspartans.com or pick them up in the main NSU athletics office, Room 161 of Joseph Echols Hall.

The 2013 NSU football season begins on Aug. 31 when the Spartans host Maine at Dick Price Stadium in the Virginia Lottery Labor Day Classic.
