RICHMOND, Va. – Jaylen Banks posted personal-best times in both the 400-meter dash and 400 hurdles as the NSU men's track and field team made a strong showing at the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond last weekend.
Banks won the 400 hurdles in 53.43 seconds and took second place in the 400 meters in 47.92. Banks also ran a leg on the victorious 4x400 relay team that posted a winning time of 3 minutes, 16.45 seconds.
The Spartans posted three more wins among a number of season-best times.
Ronald Korir was victorious in the 5,000 meters in a MEAC-leading time of 14:57.05.
Felix Kiprotich (15:08.85) and
Anteneh Girma (15:22.85) made it a sweep of first through third places.Â
NSU also made it a sweep of the two hurdles races when
Allan Frye took first in the 110 hurdles in 14.85 seconds. Frye also took second behind Banks in the 400 hurdles in 53.62 seconds.
Other top performances on the track were turned in by
Michael-Thomas Brown in the 200 meters (runner-up in 21.83),
Justin Pinder in the 400 (third place, 48.48) and Kiprotich in the 800 (fourth in 1:53.20). Pinder, Thomas-Brown and
Rashad Ramsey also ran legs on the winning 4x400 relay team.
In the field,
Garth Warner cleared 6 feet, 6.75 inches to win the high jump.
Joseph Boyd (6-4) was runner-up.
Da'Trail Hockaday posted a PR in the discus with a throw of 147 feet, 11 inches, good for fourth place.
The Spartans compete at the Colonial Relays hosted by the College of William & Mary on Thursday through Saturday in Williamsburg.
