RICHMOND, Va. – The sophomore trio of Taejah Robertson, Tyrika Lee and Janay Fields all won individual events to lead the Norfolk State women's track and field team over the weekend at the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond.

Robertson won the 100-meter hurdles in her first time this outdoor season competing in her specialty. She clocked a winning time of 14.20 seconds in the finals, which ranks her second in the MEAC so far.

Lee, meanwhile, won the 200-meter dash for the second straight weekend. Her winning time was 24.99 seconds. Teammate Janay Fields was fourth in the 200 meters (25.18) and also won the 100 meters in 12.30 seconds.

Freshman Martha Bissah also made a strong showing in multiple events. Bissah was runner-up in the 1,500 meters in a MEAC-leading time of 4 minutes, 27.12 seconds. Bissah also ran the open 400 meters, placing fifth in 57.52 seconds.

Candice Higgins also made a strong showing in the 1,500, crossing the finish line 10th in 4:41.79.

The Spartan women posted three top-five finishes in the field events. Junior Brianna Hayes took third in the high jump (5 feet, 3 inches), junior Tasia Baxter was fourth in the pole vault (10-6) and sophomore Ashaila Bunch placed fourth in the triple jump (37-2.5).

The Spartans are back in action this weekend at the Colonial Relays hosted by the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg.
