Lee, Bissah, Robertson Lead Strong Showing at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Led by personal-best performances from the trio of Martha Bissah, Tyrika Lee and Taejah Robertson, the Norfolk State women's track and field team made a strong showing at the Penn State National Open over the weekend.

Running in her best event for the first time this indoor season, Bissah was the runner-up in the 800 meters in a personal indoor-best time of 2 minutes, 6.59 seconds. She was the top collegiate finisher in the invitational (fastest) section of the 800m at Penn State and ran the 16th-fastest time in the nation this season in the process.

Lee PRed in both the 60 meters and 200 meters. In the 60m, she posted her fastest time of 7.60 seconds in the opening round before ultimately placing fifth in 7.66 seconds in the finals. Later in the meet, Lee also ran in the invitational section of the 200m, clocking a personal-best time of 24.76 seconds to place fifth.

Bissah and Lee also comprised half of the Spartans' 4x400 relay team that finished second in the invitational section. They were joined by Chazmin Fullwood and Crystal Green in clocking a time of 3:49.20, NSU's fastest time this season.

Fullwood also posted a top-five finish of her own in her lone individual event, placing third in the 400 meters in a time of 57.56.

Robertson ran well in all three rounds of the 60-meter hurdles. After clocking an 8.64 in the first round, she lowered her previous PR (8.60) twice in the final two rounds. Robertson posted an 8.55 in the semifinals before running an 8.50 in the finals to finish in fourth place.

Tasia Baxter had the highest finish among Spartan field athletes. The senior pole vaulter placed seventh with a top clearance of 10-6.

The Spartans are back in action this weekend at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational at Liberty University.
