NSU Football Adds 5 More Prospects to 2018 Recruiting Class

Signing Day Press Conference

NORFOLK, Va. -
Norfolk State head football coach Latrell Scott announced five more signees on Wednesday during the second National Signing Day for the 2018 recruiting class.

The five additions Wednesday bring NSU's current recruiting class to 10 prospects. Five players signed in the first-ever early signing period in December.

"The entire class was a small one based on the number of seniors we had last year," Scott said. "So we were very detailed in filling needs. Each player we signed fills a specific need for our program. We're excited about the fact that a lot of them are multiple position players who are very versatile."

Wednesday's signees include three in-state recruits and two from out of state. Four of the signees are high school players, while one is a prep school recruit. The latest additions include two defensive backs, one quarterback, one offensive lineman and one defensive lineman.

Scott noted that more additions are possible in the coming weeks. Read more below for stats, highlight links and Scott's quotes on the newest members.

Scott on Coles: "R.J. is very versatile. He played quarterback, receiver and safety and can play cornerback, as well. He'll start off in the secondary for us because he gives us an athletic, physical presence who can play multiple positions."

DL D.J. Djonkam
High School/Prep: Spent one season on the post-graduate team at Fork Union Military … Was honorable mention 6A All-North Region as a senior at West Springfield High School.
Scott on Djonkam: "D.J. gives us a proven pass rusher with athletic ability who has had an extra year of maturity. He can play inside or outside across the defensive line. We've had great success from FUMA and think he will continue that."

OL D'Montre' Smith
High School: Started on the offensive and defensive lines … Honorable mention All-Midlands all-area team … Was his school's nominee for the Richland County Player of the Year.
Scott on Smith: "D'Montre' is a big, athletic lineman. This is one of our first trips into a talent-rich area in South Carolina and we beat out some good programs for his services. We're very excited about what he brings to the table."

DB Shaviaea Williams
High School: Standout two-way player at Granby … Second-team All-Tidewater as a senior … Also named to the All-757 team … Accounted for more than 1,000 all-purpose yards.
Scott on Williams: "Shaviaea comes from a great background and is a 'can-do' kid who can play receiver, safety or corner. He's a great local prospect who was too good to pass up."

QB Isaiah Wilson V
High School: A four-year starter, Wilson accounted for 7,600 total yards and 63 touchdowns in his high school career … Led Smyrna to a 10-2 record and the state championship his senior season … Accounted for 2,200 yards of offense and 16 total touchdowns while earning all-conference honors … Spent his first three seasons of high school at Glasgow High.
Scott on Wilson: "We identified Isaiah during the spring recruiting period last year and have followed him closely ever since. He had a great high school career and gives us another proven winner in our quarterback room who we think can help us win football games."
