COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Norfolk State women's track and field team opened its outdoor season with a pair of top-10 finishes in relay events at the Weems Baskin Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina over the weekend.
The quartet of
Malika Pride,
Tyrika Lee,
Chazmin Fullwood and
Taejah Robertson teamed up to placed third in the 4x300 meter relay. They ran a time of 2 minutes, 39.69 seconds. In the 4x400 relay to close the meet, the same group took 10th place in 3:59.12.
Lee and Pride also fared well in the 200-meter dash. Lee placed second in her heat in 24.37 seconds, while Pride won her section in a 24.58 seconds. Both placed among the top 30 in the event, which included nearly 150 sprinters.
Candice Higgins had the highest individual finish among the Spartans in individual events. She placed fifth in the 1,500 meters in 4:47.14.
Junior
Kellyann James had the high finish for NSU in the field events, taking 10h in the javelin in 102-05.
The Spartans are back on the track next Friday and Saturday at the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond.
