Meet Results

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – One school distance record, two event victories and a trio of personal bests from its freshman sprinters highlighted a successful weekend for the Norfolk State men's track and field team, which placed fifth in the team standings at the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary.

In the 10,000 meters, junior Anteneh Girma set a new school record with his time of 30 minutes, 11.40 seconds. It was good enough for an eighth-place finish and broke teammate Ronald Korir's previous record of 30:38.46 from last year's Colonial Relays. It is also the fastest time in the MEAC so far this season.

The Spartans posted two wins at the meet. Sophomore Jacob Milton captured a high jump title for the second straight week, winning the Colonial Relays event with a top height of 7 feet, 0.25 inches. Teammate Garth Warner was close behind, placing second in a season-best 6-10.75.

The 4x200 relay team of Keith Brown, Jaylen Banks, Phil Griggs Jr. and Trequan Barnes won its event in 1:27.55. Brown, Barnes, Tyson Robinson and Felix Kiprotich also teamed to help the Spartans place fifth in the sprint medley relay in 3:34.12.

The relay finishes capped a stellar meet for the freshmen Brown and Barnes. Brown posted personal records in both the 100 and 200-meter dash races. He was second in the 100 in 10.60 seconds and eighth in the 200 in 21.64 seconds.

Barnes, the MEAC indoor champion in the 400 meters, posted a personal-best in the quarter-mile with a time of 46.99 seconds. He was runner-up in the event at William & Mary after posting the fourth-best time in that event among MEAC runners this outdoor season.

Kiprotich also performed well in the meet, running the MEAC's fourth-fastest time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Kiprotich ran a time of 9:47.03, which placed him 21st out of 35 runners at the Colonial Relays.

The Spartans finished the meet with 52 points, fifth place out of the 42 teams in attendance.

The Spartans next compete in the Charlotte Invitational next weekend.
