WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Freshman
Malika Pride ran a season-best time in the 400-meter dash and helped the Spartans 4x200 meter relay team win its event at the Colonial Relays hosted by the College of William & Mary this weekend.
Pride ran her collegiate-best time of 56.04 seconds as she won her heat and placed second overall out of 69 runners in the 400 meters. She also teamed with
Tyrika Lee,
Taejah Robertson and
Kiara Grant to win the 4x200 relay in 1 minute, 41.69 seconds.
The Spartans' other relay entry at the meet also fared well, as the sprint medley group of Lee, Robertson,
Martha Bissah and
Candice Higgins won its heat and came in sixth place in 4:09.45.
Bissah matched Pride for the top finish for a Spartan individual at the meet, as she was runner-up in the championship section of the 1,500 meters. She crossed the line in 4:28.20.
In other events, junior
Kellyann James took third in her heat in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.91 seconds and junior
Ashaila Bunch claimed eighth in the triple jump (34 feet, 9.5 inches).
The Spartans next compete in the Charlotte Invitational next weekend.
