NORFOLK, Va. – Longwood rallied from a 1-0 deficit by scoring all its runs in the fifth inning and later to pull out an 8-1 victory over the Spartans on Tuesday afternoon at Marty L. Miller Field.
The Spartans (11-24), who were playing their first home game this month, took a 1-0 lead in the third.
Malcolm Perry walked and stole second, then advanced to third on a sacrifice by
Cody Donnell.
Brandon Cleveland then laid down a squeeze bunt to score Perry with the game's first run.
Longwood tied it in the fifth on Gregory Ryan's RBI single. Ryan later scored with two outs on a throw down to first base after a dropped third strike, giving the Lancers the lead.
Michael Dolberry and Hayden Harris added run-scoring singles in the sixth, while Corbin McCloud and Eric Chorba drove in runs in the seventh as the Lancer lead stretched to 6-1.
