NSU Athletics Foundation History

NSU Athletics Foundation

The Norfolk State University Athletics Foundation was founded on July 29, 1980.

The organization's Memorandum of Understanding and its By-Laws states that the "purpose of The Foundation is to develop gifts and manage assets for the benefit of the Norfolk State University Intercollegiate Athletics program, its educational program, facilities, students and staff. The Foundation is organized exclusively for charitable, educational purposes of Norfolk State University. The Foundation is empowered to "encourage, solicit, receive, manage, administer, control, invest, and disburse contributions, gifts grants, bequests, and transfers of funds or property of any nature, and carry out the wishes and see that the property and so received are applied to the uses specified by the donors."

A PROUD PAST...
Since its inception, The Athletics Foundation has played an integral role in the development and progress of the NSU Athletics Program. Under former Executive Director Malverse Nicholson, The Foundation was successful in sponsoring and coordinating fundraising activities that supplemented the athletics department's budget. Through the efforts of Nicholson and The Foundation, the athletics program produced championship teams and a multitude of outstanding student athletes.

A VISION FOR THE FUTURE ...
Now, more than before, there is a greater need for financial assistance in the areas of scholarships, the maintenance of facilities, and the purchase of equipment. As members of the National Collegiate Athletics Association Division I and the Mid-Eastern Athletics Conference, NSU athletics is challenged to duplicate its past success while competing at the highest level of collegiate athletics. The NSU athletics program and The Foundation is committed to meeting this challenge. Join us as we embark on a new era of athletics achievement and support as a member of the NSU Athletics Foundation.
