Dr. Carray Banks Jr. is in his 11th year as Norfolk State’s faculty athletic representative in 2020-21. In this capacity, he represents NSU and its faculty in relationships with the NCAA and MEAC. The faculty's voice and influence regarding intercollegiate athletics are channeled primarily through the faculty athletic representative.

His role as the faculty athletics representative has allowed Banks to serve on the national level. He is a current member of the NCAA Division I Legislation Committee. He is also a former member of the NCAA Division I Committee on Academics, the NCAA Div. I Academic Executive Council, the HBCU and LRSI Advisory Executive group, the Accelerating Academic Success Grant Program Selection Committee (AASP), the Data Review Sub-committee, and the NCAA Two-Year Transfer Working Group. He has served on numerous NCAA Division I Initial Certification and Recertification Accreditation Review Teams.

Banks has represented NSU on numerous committees with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference as well. He is a former President of the MEAC Delegate Assembly, and he helped charter the MEAC APR award. He is also a member of the MEAC Executive Council and the MEAC Basketball Championship Committee.

Banks, who is also an associate professor in the Department of Technology in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology at NSU, has lent his talents to many athletic endeavors at the University. He worked for six years as an academic enhancement counselor for the men’s basketball team. In addition, he has served on the NSU Athletics Foundation Sports Hall of Fame selection committee as well as the chairman of the steering committee for NSU’s NCAA recertification in 2008.

He was also a staple at home athletic events, serving as member of the official game clock management team at Spartan basketball and football games for several years. Banks supervised the data generation and graphic media advertisements on the graphics display boards during football games at William “Dick” Price Stadium.

Banks received a B.S. in Industrial Arts Education from Elizabeth City State University, an M.A. in Professional and Technical Education at Ball State University, and a Ph.D. in Vocational and Industrial Education from Pennsylvania State University.

Banks resides in Virginia Beach with his wife, Alesia, and daughter, Aliyah.
