2013 Tailgating Announcement - Campus Parking/Construction

The Department of Athletics has adjusted its guidelines for 2013 due in part to the construction along Presidential Parkway on the NSU campus. In addition, we have revised our policies related to tailgating and incorporated a priority purchasing system.

The purchase of one (1) season tailgating pass is permitted per season ticket holder.

TAILGATING POLICIES

• Tailgating: Tailgating is defined as parking in a designated location/area and/or setting up non-permanent items such as tents and tables to consume food and beverages prior to a home football game. Alcohol for those INDIVIDUALS OF LEGAL AGE may be permitted for areas outlined below.

• NORFOLK STATE UNIVERSITY DOES NOT SANCTION THE CONSUMPTION OR POSSESSION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES BY UNDERAGE PERSONS, NOR DOES IT SANCTION THE VIOLATION OF FEDERAL OR STATE LAW.

• Conduct: Individuals attending football games at Norfolk State University are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful manner.  Individuals acting in a disruptive, disrespectful or disorderly manner may be asked to leave the premises or be subject to a citation.

• Tailgating Areas: Tailgating with food and beverages are permitted in the following areas of campus (click here for a tailgating map):

   - Grass adjacent to E.L. Hamm Fine Arts Building
   - Grass behind Marty Miller Baseball Field
   - Grass adjacent to Lyman Beecher Brooks Library
   - Grass in front of the Physical Plant Warehouse

The above areas are the ONLY areas permitted for tailgating and consumption of alcohol on game days.

Tailgating and alcohol consumption is not permitted in these areas during the game.

Tailgating is limited to directly behind your parked vehicle unless you are located on a grass tailgating spot.  Roadways cannot be blocked for any reason and more than one parking spot cannot be used.

• Consumption of Alcohol: No alcohol may be sold. No UNDERAGE distribution or consumption of alcohol is permitted.

• Consumption and Preparation of Food: No food may be sold.  Propane and charcoal grills are the only permissible sources of heat cooking.  Burned coals and/or residue from cooking may not be permitted to make contact with the paved surface and/or grass area. Hot coals must be completely extinguished with water prior to leaving the tailgate site.

Open flame fires, including fire pits, are prohibited.

• Trash: All groups and individuals participating in tailgating are responsible for proper disposal of their trash and other debris such as charcoal.  Trash containers will be provided in tailgating areas.

• Solicitation: No sales activities are allowed and/or permitted in the tailgating areas or on campus unless authorized by the Office of Auxiliary Services.

• Structures: No permanent or semi-permanent structures may be constructed or placed for any activity on University grounds.

• Other:
   - Banners or signage recognizing/endorsing businesses or products may not be displayed.

• Tailgating Times: Tailgating lots will open at 9 a.m. 
   - Permission is required by the Department of Athletics and Campus Police to set-up prior to 9 a.m. 
   - Tailgating will conclude approximately two (2) hours after the end of the football game.

• Prepaid Parking: Prepaid parking is available on a first come first serve basis for individuals who have purchased tailgating in the following areas: Grass adjacent to E.L. Hamm Fine Arts Building; Grass behind Marty Miller Baseball Field; Grass in front of Lyman B. Brooks Library; Basketball Courts behind the Baseball Field; Grass in front of the Physical Plant Warehouse
   - Each tailgater in the above area are able to purchase one (1) prepaid parking pass.
   - Please include the request on the Tailgating Request Form
